Hey you!

Hey you!

Thank you for stopping by. My name is Sophie Wedd. I work part-time as the Content Team Captain and Art Director at Camp Now, as an Independent Contractor. I also run my own tiny Graphic Design studio, Sophie Wedd Design, DBA. When I'm not at Camp Now, I'm usually working on a wide range of design projects for local businesses, startups and artists. Learn more about my studio here: sophiewedd.com.

Some history: After graduating from Hawthorne Valley High School, I moved to Brooklyn to pursue my dreams of becoming a Graphic Designer. I graduated from Pratt Institute in 2013, with a BFA in Communications Design and a focus on Graphic Design. I maintained a National Merit Scholarship throughout my time there, and in 2011 I was awarded a place on the President's List. After that I moved back upstate, to start my own business, and be closer to my family and to the endless fields, trees and peace and quiet!

I live and work in Ghent, NY with a dog named Bear and a guy named Josh. We live pretty close to my mom and my seven younger siblings. I work remotely out of my home office some of the time, and I go into work at the Camp Now headquarters in New Lebanon, NY the rest of the time! I love the freedom of working for myself and I'm deeply grateful for everything that life has dealt me!

This blog space will serve as a platform for weekly writings by the Camp Now Crew, and an insight into who we are and what we do. We will share our work with you on a weekly basis, in the hope that it will inspire you and provide some value to you, in designing your personal and work life to best suit your dreams. So hey, if this sounds like something you’re interested in, watch us as we share our successes and failures, our discoveries, our insights, our creations. Interact with us, talk to us, learn about ways that you can get involved with us on a deeper level.

Every week, a new post will be shared, and a rotation of authors will offer a variety of perspectives on life, working at Camp Now, being an artist, and more. Authors will include Crew members, Cassidy A. Maze (the woman behind it all) who will will step in monthly to share her “Dear You…” Letters, and guest writers, both fictional and real, who will be making appearances when you least expect it!

This is me in my home studio, sitting at the desk my late father made, blissed out on coffee and Camp Now!

I have been working at Camp Now since April, 2015. Over the course of my time here, I have worn many hats, morphed into many roles and met so many amazing, artistic and interesting people (with an emphasis on some pretty powerful, kick-ass local women)! I have grown far beyond the reaches of what I thought I was capable of doing, learned new skills and worked in areas that I didn’t even know I was interested in, but have since fallen in love with!

Camp Now is divided into four Teams (the Content Team, the Business Team, the Personal/Food/Property/Shop Team, and the Communications Team). So I am responsible for guiding my Team and making sure that projects stay on course. I also do all of the Graphic Design including Branding, Web Design, UX Design, Product Development and Package Design. I also work on budgets, scheduling, timelines and Crew management including setting up interoffice networks. I assist in managing the Crealitation community and contribute to research, business development, and social media and marketing strategies. Other responsibilities include Game testing and Copy Editing.

When I started back in April, all I knew was that I would be blocking out several websites for a project called Crealitation. Working on that one-time project quickly evolved into me becoming part of a small and fast-growing, grassroots team of powerful players, on an epic mission to “Empower People to Find Their Gift and Create Their Reality.”

Last Spring we were working out of Lizzie aka Cassidy A. Maze’s house in Craryville, NY. At the end of the August we all migrated over to an old shaker building in New Lebanon, NY, which has a rich history and has had many different commercial/residential purposes in the past. So far, it has been proving to us the potential it has to exist as a malleable hub of activity for Camp Now, including a storefront where our Gift Shop is located, our Crew’s office and headquarters, a commercial kitchen, and currently as a living space for Cassidy A. Maze and her adorable, precocious little daughter, Louise Dharma Moon Kieraldo, her chickens, her hilarious, lovable dogs Merlin and Willow, and anyone who is on one of the Work-Study retreats we offer.

We recently had a soft opening for our Camp Now Gift Shop, we have family-style meals in “The Canteen” every day, where we eat soup, bread and cheese out of metal camping dishes. Two of my younger siblings work with us now, and my mom has done a photography project for us. The family ties within our workspace are really amazing and unique. There are mothers and daughters, sisters, soul sisters, boyfriends and girlfriends. If you think about how many hours of your life are spent working, you might ask yourself, why not create a space where you can work alongside those you love, those you want to spend your finite time with?

I’ll close out by sharing some of my design work with you.
